CDS

A machine that keeps the skips of a scratched CD as loops and stacks them. Drawing on the disc adds marks, and the marks decide where it skips.

Controls

To begin
PLAY starts it. Drag across the disc to scratch it; the sound skips where you scratched. MARK puts three marks on for you, WIPE clears them all.
Marks and skips
A mark’s radius sets where in the piece it reads, its size how far the skip can wander, and its shape which length of loop it favours — round shapes long, angular ones middling, dots grains. The angle and the colour are there to look at. With no marks at all it does not skip and stays where it is. SKIP re-draws every landing point at once.
The disc
DISC gives you another disc. Each one has its own key, scale, tempo and set of instruments. The material is CC0 recordings of single notes; the button on the right switches to synthesised sound instead.
The sliders
LAYERS is how many loops run at once, DRIFT how fast they are replaced, MICRO how often grain-short loops appear, CLICK how sharp the cuts are and how often a silence falls around a skip, WOHNTON how often each fragment is sent to a different output.
Holding and aligning
HOLD stops the form from changing and keeps the loops that are sounding. GRID aligns loop lengths and the moment of each skip to the tempo. KEY, MODE and BPM follow the disc while they read AUTO; move them and they stay put.
Recording
REC starts recording; press it again and a wav file comes down. It records only while the sound is running.
